In Congo Brazzaville it is pretty common to see politicians and military men get away with crime like murder, rape,, money laundering, domestic abuse, sex trafficking and the list is not exhaustive. In this country where Men are Above the Law, status and political affiliations are sort of a shield against justice.
All prisoners who are serving years in real and legally protected countries wish they lived in the Congo, a country where laws only strike the poor and the no-bodies.
This might sound a bit like a movie scene but the Congolese deputy mayor who sexually abused his 17-year-old step daughter is reportedly back in office after escaping a few months ago. It was later reported that Okana has been incarcerated.
The argument used in this case is that the man has not been found guilty and therefore can go back to work. He as not been found guilty despite clear evidence presented by his own wife as well as text messages to the victim admitting the abuse. The question here is to know why he was incarcerated if he was formally not found guilty? To anyone who understands Law this makes no damn sense. There is no logic to this whole situation. Unfortunately that is the consequence of giving power to an incompetent individual and letting him keep it for four decades.
Because Okana is a member of the political office of the Congolese Labor Party, he is less likely to be found guilty of any crime no matter how worse it might, as long as it does not compromise the dicatorship.
Dozens if not hundreds of folks belonging to the Nguesso regime have gotten and still get away with murders, rapes, money laundering etc. The only folks incarcerated, banned or expelled from the country are the ones who tell the truth and demand justice.
The Nguesso regime manipulates public opinion by pretending to take legal action against whoever is publicly caught red-handed, then if the individual belongs to their clan, they will fabricate reasons to acquit him. That is how deep down this country has fallen.
